Porto Itapoá will invest more than BRL$ 600 thousand in the Carijós Municipal Natural Park
Port Itapoá expansion works follow the schedule as planned
Terminal will feature an additional 200,000 m² of yard space and will have its handling capacity doubled by the end of 2023
The expansion works of Porto Itapoá have already started and will be concluded by the end of 2023. The expansion represents an important step for the activities of the Terminal, since the cargo handling capacity will practically double. The patio ranges from the current 250,000 m² to 455,000 m² in its final phase.
The construction work follows according to schedule, and it is currently at the stage of drainage infrastructure works, with the installation of the piping and concreting of the protection plates. The next phase of the project, scheduled to start in June, is called the overflow embankment. The expansion will be the result of an investment of BRL$ 750 million.
The president of Porto Itapoá, Cássio Schreiner, was pleased to see the work progressing well. “We have made constant investments in infrastructure and technology, always with a focus on performance,” he pointed out. “This expansion will allow us to increase our handling capacity from 1.2 million TEUs handled per year to 2 million TEUs”, explained Schreiner.
Investment in infrastructure
With the forecast of expanding its service capacity, Porto Itapoá has been investing in infrastructure. Five more RTGs were acquired, a mobile crane on tires, suitable for handling containers in the yard. The Terminal already has 17 of these pieces of equipment, branded ZPMC, but the new ones will be operated by remote control – Porto Itapoá will be the first in Brazil to have this technology. The delivery of these machines will be in January 2023.
Porto Itapoá also acquired two new Reach Stacker forklifts – already in operation – that will be used in operations in the Terminal’s yard. The objective is to enhance the service between the ship and the yard, complementing the operations with the RTG, a mobile crane, used in operations inside ports to move and stack the containers.
Another important acquisition is the nine terminal tractor trucks (TTs) – which arrive in July -, in addition to nine buggies, the TT “carts” – which have already arrived. The vehicles join the Rucker fleet of 40 units, which can each load 65 tons, equivalent to two 20-foot containers.
Regional Development
The expansion of the port’s handling capacity will have a direct impact on the municipality, increasing the collection via ISS (Service Tax). Another important detail, the expansion of the port makes the arrival of other companies that support the port activity in Itapoá and Garuva more attractive. Thus, in addition to the increase in the ISS (Service Tax) generated by these businesses, they will be able to generate different types of jobs throughout the region.
