In May, the terminal set a new monthly record for dry imports (non-refrigerated cargo), handling 37,562 TEUs.
Porto Itapoá has surpassed the milestone of 500,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) handled in the first five months of 2024. Additionally, in May, the terminal set a new monthly record for dry imports (non-refrigerated cargo), handling 37,562 TEUs. Felipe Fiovaranti Kaufmann, Director of Business Development and Customer Experience at Porto Itapoá, also highlighted the overall port activity in May. “We handled 102,270 TEUs, marking the third-largest monthly volume recorded,” said Kaufmann. “In April, we broke our historical monthly record with 107,475 TEUs.”
Crossdocking operations also reached a record high, with 918 TEUs handled. Crossdocking is the operation where cargo is transferred directly from the container to the customer’s truck, or vice versa. The month also saw the highest monthly volume in LCL (Less than Container Load) cargo, where a container is shared by different cargoes and clients. “This mode has been growing and serves clients who may not have enough cargo to fill a container. It’s important to mention that Porto Itapoá is the only terminal in the primary zone offering this service, reducing costs and optimizing times for importers,” Kaufmann explained.
Another significant record for the month was the gate movement, with 47,073 truck entries recorded, surpassing the previous record of 45,827 transactions set in April 2024.
Growth
Last year, Porto Itapoá surpassed the milestone of 1 million TEUs handled in a single year for the first time. It was also the fastest-growing private container terminal in Brazil, increasing its 2022 volume by 20%.
