Porto Itapoá and Customs unprecedented cooperation agreement in Brazil
An unprecedented cooperation agreement in the country was signed by Porto Itapoá and the Customs Office in São Francisco do Sul last December 17. This agreement addresses the destination of goods seized by the Customs and abandoned by some intervening parties that operate in the foreign trade logistics chain. Now, the Terminal can properly transfer goods under its customs custody so that the Federal Government may properly take these goods and destroy them. Currently, Porto Itapoá has over 60 containers in these conditions.
Thus, we’ll be able to expedite the removal of these goods from the Terminal after due inspection by the Customs, as well as their destruction and the proper disposal of the residues generated in accordance with environmental laws. In addition to the entire operational execution, the Terminal shall also be responsible for funding these procedures. The Customs remains responsible for the destination of items for auction and donation.
“The cordial relationship between Porto Itapoá and the Customs allowed for this cooperation agreement, unprecedented in Brazil. Our goal is to contribute to public authorities by providing operational support to the intervening body in the proper and expeditious destination of these goods”, says Sergni Pessoa Rosa Junior, Operations Director at Porto Itapoá.
