Porto Itapoá receives 2024 Portos + Brazil Award
Porto Itapoá has been honored with the Ports + Brazil Award, granted by the Ministry of Ports and Airports of the Federal Government. The terminal secured 2nd place in the category of container movement growth, being the private terminal with the highest growth in this category in the country, achieving a 20% increase compared to the previous year. Last year, Porto Itapoá surpassed 1 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) for the first time in its history, marking a 14% increase over 2022.
The award ceremony took place in Brasília on August 6th. Porto Itapoá’s president, Cássio Schreiner, emphasized the investments made to expand the terminal’s infrastructure. “Last year, we welcomed new equipment and technologies, in addition to completing Phase III of our yard, which now has an area of 455,000 m² and a new warehouse with 8,000 m² of covered space,” he said.
Schreiner also highlighted the success of the Babitonga Port Complex at the awards. “The ports of Babitonga demonstrated their importance and excellence,” he stated. The Port of São Francisco do Sul won in the category of bulk solid movement growth and in the category of total public port movement growth. Additionally, the Aquatic Terminal of São Francisco do Sul was also awarded in the liquid bulk category.

Campaign Highlights the Importance of the Babitonga Port Complex
One of the country’s main logistics assets, Porto Itapoá and the Port of São Francisco do Sul launched this year the advertising campaign: “Babitonga Bay Complex – It seems complex, but it’s phenomenal.” With a privileged location, the bay lies between the municipalities of São Francisco do Sul, Itapoá, Joinville, Araquari, and Garuva, 215 km from Florianópolis and about 100 km from Curitiba.
The Babitonga port complex plays a vital role in the economic development of Santa Catarina and the country, bringing together important terminals like Porto Itapoá, Port of São Francisco do Sul, Transpetro, Terminal Gás Sul, as well as various retro port terminals. A natural and economic ecosystem that encompasses one of the largest industrial centers in the country, Babitonga is responsible for handling over 56 million tons in 2023, equivalent to more than 60% of the market share in Santa Catarina.
