PF inaugurates GEPOM operational unit at Porto Itapoá
The Federal Police inaugurated, in April, a new operational unit which will serve as the base for the Special Maritime Police Group (GEPOM), in Itapoá. PF has always worked in partnership with Porto Itapoá, but now establishes itself in this space with better physical structure that will provide increased support for enforcement and combating various crimes committed in port areas.
In a second phase, this unit may also host the migration nucleus to decentralize activities that are currently carried out at the Port of São Francisco do Sul.
Porto Itapoá began its activities in 2011. Just after one year of operation, it had already received over 500 vessels. In 2013, it surpassed the mark of 500 employees, and in 2014 it was elected as the best and most efficient port terminal in Brazil in 2018, subsequently reaching the first position among the largest ports in Santa Catarina and third in the country. It was recognized as a socio-environmental highlight by ANTAQ and the Ministry of Infrastructure. In 2021, with 10 years of operation, it had already surpassed the mark of 1000 direct employees.
In 2022, it inaugurated over 50,000 m2 of yard, and today, it already has around 300,000 m2 of total area in full operation.
Present at the ceremony were the Regional Superintendent of the Federal Police in Santa Catarina, Aletea Vega Marona Kunde; the chief of the PF Delegation in Joinville, Jean Rodrigo Helfenstein; the CEO of Porto Itapoá, Cássio José Schreiner; civilian and military authorities; representatives of municipal agencies from Itapoá, Joinville, and the region; directors of Porto Itapoá; representatives of local public security agencies, the Armed Forces, Comportos, Justice, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
