Porto Itapoá receives ship with 51 meters of width
The maneuver served as an experimental basis for approval by the Brazilian Navy for this navigation parameter in the Babitonga Bay
In early April, Porto Itapoá received the CMA CGM Búzios ship. The giant, with a length of 336m and a “beam width” of 51m, is the widest vessel to dock at the Terminal in its nearly 13 years of operation.
The maneuver took place during the morning and served as an experimental basis for approval by the Brazilian Navy for this navigation parameter in the Babitonga Bay, according to Porto Itapoá’s Director of Operations, Technology, and Environment, Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr. “The success of the operation demonstrates the capacity of our bay to receive large vessels safely and efficiently,” he emphasizes.
With the approval, the access channel of the Babitonga Bay would be authorized to receive vessels of this size, making its port complex one of the only ones with this capacity throughout Brazil.
The ship from the CMA CGM Group, a global player in maritime, land, and air solutions, sails under the Maltese flag and already operates in the Asia South America East Coast 2 (SEAS2) service.
