Porto Itapoá develops in-house emergency cage exclusively for rescue
In a pioneering initiative in the Brazilian port scenario, Porto Itapoá presents a unique and innovative solution for emergency situations: its own rescue cage. Faced with the absence of this equipment in the national market, the Porto Itapoá team decided to take the lead and create a cage that would meet the specific needs of port operations.
The cage will be used for rescue in critical situations, according to Porto Itapoá’s Director of Operations, Technology, and Environment, Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr. “The existing offer of this type of equipment in Europe did not meet our specific needs, which prompted our team to internally develop the necessary solution,” he explains.
The equipment stands out for having four doors, providing easy entry for rescue teams. This feature was carefully planned to optimize rescue operations in emergency cases, ensuring efficiency and promptness in response.
Additionally, the equipment will have a system for hoisting and allocating potential accident victims that facilitates maneuvering, making the rescue even faster, including in maritime situations. “It is an important addition to our operation, but one that we hope never to use,” jokes the Terminal Director.
The conception of the emergency cage involved a collaborative approach, with active participation from various sectors of Porto Itapoá. “Attentive listening and integration of feedback were essential to ensure that the equipment met the real demands of rescue in the port environment as precisely as possible,” comments Rosa Jr.
By becoming the only port in Brazil to have this safety innovation, Porto Itapoá reinforces its commitment to operational excellence and life protection. The emergency cage not only represents a significant advance in preparing for critical situations but also highlights Porto Itapoá as a hub for innovation and safety in the national port scenario.
