Porto Itapoá sets successive records in crossdocking
Porto Itapoá launches its new institutional website and Customer Portal
Porto Itapoá is the largest wooden pellet shipper in Brazil
Due to its strategic location and operational efficiency, with sustainability as one of its critical pillars, Porto Itapoá has been contributing directly to the increase of biomass exports from Brazil and, indirectly, also to the reduction of CO2 in the world.
The Terminal is already the country’s largest shipper of wooden pellets, which are produced from reforestation wood residues, which avoid felling native forests and causing deforestation. These residues – which would be normally discarded – are gaining an important new use as a source of biofuel for heat generation, replacing fossil fuels. And using biofuel means investing in clean energy and joining the fight against global warming. The reduction in CO2 emissions can reach almost 30% depending on the fuel used in the heat exchange.
Biomass-powered equipment can heat water and environments without polluting the planet, depleting natural resources, or accelerating the effects of global warming. In addition to the significant positive effects from the environmental standpoint, pellets integrate bioeconomy as a new, much more cost-effective model based on low-impact biological systems.
